Sterling silver develops patina. Gold vermeil responds to touch and wear. Surfaces soften. These changes are part of living with a piece.

A little care will help it age beautifully.

Sterling Silver

CŒURA sterling silver is 925 silver.

Over time, sterling may naturally darken as it responds to air, moisture and the environment.

This is tarnish - and, with time, it can become the particular patina of a piece that has been worn often.

To brighten your silver, gently polish it with a soft silver polishing cloth.

Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive materials.

18K Gold Vermeil

CŒURA Gold Vermeil is a substantial layer of real 18K gold over sterling silver.

We use 2.5 microns of 18K gold on most pieces and 3 microns on rings.

That means precious metal over precious metal - not gold over a base-metal core.

Gold vermeil will change with wear.

Over time, the gold layer may gradually thin in the places that receive the most contact from skin, hands and clothing.

How quickly this happens depends on how often the piece is worn and how it is cared for.

When a CŒURA vermeil piece eventually needs renewed finishing, we will replate it at cost.

Water

Jewelry and water can meet. They simply shouldn't live together.

We recommend removing your pieces before showering, swimming, bathing or entering pools, hot tubs and the ocean.

Chlorine, salt, soaps and repeated moisture can accelerate surface wear, particularly on gold vermeil.

Perfume, Lotion & Sunscreen

Last on. First off.

Apply perfume, lotion, sunscreen and cosmetics before putting on your jewelry and allow them to dry.

At the end of the day, remove your jewelry before washing or applying nighttime skincare.

Sleeping & Exercise

We recommend removing jewelry before sleeping and exercising.

Pressure, sweat, friction and catching can all put unnecessary stress on chains, settings, clasps and finishes.

Cleaning

For everyday care, wipe your piece gently with a clean, soft cloth after wearing it.

Sterling silver may occasionally be polished with an appropriate silver cloth.

Treat gold vermeil more gently. Do not aggressively polish it, as repeated abrasion can remove gold along with whatever you are trying to clean.

Avoid dips, household cleaners and abrasive compounds.

Storage

Store your jewelry clean and dry.

Whenever possible, keep pieces separately so chains do not tangle and metal surfaces do not scratch one another.

Your CŒURA pouch and box are designed to protect your piece when it isn't being worn.

Chains

Fine chains deserve particular care.

Lay chains flat or allow them to hang when storing them. Fastening the clasp before storing can help prevent knots.

Never pull a knot tight.

If a chain tangles, place it on a flat surface and gently loosen the knot rather than pulling from either end.

Ritual Cord

Our Ritual Cord is offered in 30" and 46" lengths.

Treat the cord as you would a fine textile.

Keep it dry and away from perfume, lotion, oils and cosmetics. Remove it before bathing, swimming, sleeping or exercising.

When it isn't being worn, lay it loosely rather than winding or knotting it tightly.

Handle the metal fittings rather than pulling on the cord itself when putting it on or taking it off.

Stones & Settings

Treat stone-set jewelry with care.

Avoid impacts, catches and pressure against hard surfaces.

If a stone ever appears loose, stop wearing the piece and write to us before it is lost.

Repairs & Renewal

Anything we made, we'll look at.

Every CŒURA piece is guaranteed against a fault in its making for as long as you have it.

Damage from wear or accident can often be repaired at cost. Gold vermeil can be renewed. Sterling can be refinished. Clasps and settings can often be restored.

Precious materials are worth caring for precisely because they don't have to be disposable.
